As I was heading to leave Toledo, I saw this Taco Truck on the opposite side of the street and seeing as I’m not one to EVER pass up a Taco….I mean, duh….I’m Mexican!
I knew I just HAD to stop and try them.
Boy, am I ever glad I did!
This was HANDS DOWN the BEST Taco I’ve ever had. and that is NOT an easy thing for me to say.
I grew up eating my grandmother’s tacos and she is as authentic as it gets. ( I often say that she speaks Spanglish – a blend of having english + half spanish) and let’s just say that she makes everything from scratch, including the tortillas.
I remember standing beside her while she rolled them into little balls and showed me *just the right way* to roll them and then flatten them out. She’d put them on her griddle and voila! within minutes she’d hand me a piping hot tortilla and I’d smother it with butter.
Little did I know at that time, the amazing food she was making and how I would grow up CRAVING them all the time.
To this day I still pick up a stack of tortillas at the store and the first thing I do is smell them…..if they smell remotely close to how my grandmother made them, then I get them.
JUST THIS WEEK i went into a downtown Toledo market and saw a brand of tortiallas I didn’t recognize, of course my first reaction was to pick the package up and smell it.
So, I did….
and they smelled JUST RIGHT.
I set them in my cart and seconds later I was tapped on the shoulder by an elderly Mexican man who must’ve seen the whole scenario play out….because he handed me another package and when I put it in my hands it was STILL WARM!
WHAT?!?!
I immediately thanked him and looked over to see my 4 year old grabbing the packages of tortillas and smelling them as well 🙂
I have yet to open the package, but you can be certain that tacos are on the menu at my house this week!
ANYWAY, I totally got side-tracked there!
So, back to Taco Gringo!
The sweetest, cutest couple run it and I don’t think they have ANY idea how freaking amazing their tacos are.
Well, maybe they do and that’s why they have the food truck, but regardless….they are phenomenal.
Ready for it?!
Look at the beauty of that taco?!
Fresh ingredients and hands. down. the. best. I’ve. ever. had.
So, FIND Taco Gringo, their Facebook page is here and you can see where they will be next and TRUST ME….you will NOT be disappointed!
